Student Leadership

 

Student Leadership at Ascot

At Ascot State School we provide many opportunities for our students to hold positions of leadership. Student leadership positions are held in high esteem by the Principal, staff, their fellow students, parents, carers and the general community.

The positions available for pupils include School and Vice School Captains, House Captains, Music and Art Seniors, and Student Councillors. The processes involved with the selection of each, vary with the position.​ 

Year 6 Leadership ​Roles

School Captains and Vice School Captains:

  • Attend and represent Ascot State School at in-school and extra-curricular activities eg ANZAC Ceremony, Musical Evenings, Orientation Days, Graduation Day
  • Active member of the Student Leadership Team

  • Speak at Junior and Senior Assemblies

  • Participate and encourage participation in school activities

  • Conduct tours of the school for special guests

 

Student Councillors (2 per Year 6 Class, 1 per Year 5 Class):

  • Attend and represent Ascot State School at in-school and extra-curricular activities eg ANZAC Ceremony
  • Coordinate and assist with whole school events on behalf of the Student Council, eg No Bullying Day

  • Speak at Junior and Senior Assemblies

  • Participate and encourage participation in school activities


House Captains (4 per House):

  • Attend and participate​e in school carnivals and activities eg swimming carnival, athletics carnival
  • Active member of the Sports Committee

  • Assist with the day to day running of the Sports Room

  • Assist the PE teachers run the sport carnivals​

  • Encourage and promote participation in sports carnivals


​Bio Box, Environment Committee, Library and Early Act Seniors:​​​​

  • Represent their class, the Environment or Early Act Committees
  • Library seniors assist with library duties
  • Participate and encourage participation in school activities
  • Speak at Junior and Senior Assemblies


Music Seniors (chosen by Music Department):

  • Assist Music Department with activities held throughout the year including Discos, Film Evenings, Musical Evenings

 

Art Seniors (chosen by Art Teacher):

  • Assist Art Teach​er with activities held throughout the year including FoVAD activities, including Art Week


Student Leaders (All Year 6 Students):

  • Participate and encourage participation in school activities
  • Follow the Ascot State School Leaders’ Pledge
  • Demonstrate consistent behaviour and engagement with learning
