Ascot State School has a strong tradition in sport and
physical education. Our physical activity program is designed to support children to move their bodies,
understand movement and learn through movement, as outlined in the achievement
standards of the Australian curriculum. The program promotes participation in
the areas of aquatics (water safety and survival skills, stroke development and
flipper ball), fundamental movement activities, perceptual motor activities, fitness
activities – including cross country, ball skills, striking skills, athletics,
gymnastics and a variety of modified sports and games skills. Two Physical
Education specialists teach the physical activity component of the curriculum,
Ms Graham (prep – yr 2) and Mr Harris (yr 3 – 6).

Sport Development (Year 3/4)
To help prepare students for interschool sport in Years 5 and 6 (Gala Days), Year 3 and 4 children will participate in a skills development program for 5 x 40 minute sessions twice during the year, alternating between Year 3 and 4 each term. The program will be organised and supervised by year level teachers in conjunction with the P.E specialists and may involve assistance from outside sporting organisations.
