Student leadership

​At Ascot State School we provide many opportunities for our students to participate in leadership positions.  These positions are held in high esteem by the Principal, staff, their fellow students, parents carers and the general community.  
The positions available for pupils include School and Vice School Captains, House Captains, Music Seniors, Art Seniors, STEAM Seniors, Library Seniors and Student Councillors.

Our Student leadership development program commences in year 5 as we encourage all students to 'aspire higher'.  Students participate in workshops conducted by Unleashing Personal Potenti​al as they empower students to thrive as they learn, live and lead.

School Captains and Vice Captains (Four Year 6 Students)

  • Attend and represent Ascot State School at in-school and extra-curricular activities e.g. ANZAC ceremony, musical evenings, orientation days, graduation day
  • Active member of the student leadership team
  • Speak at junior and senior assemblies
  • Participate and encourage participation in school activites
  • Conduct tours of the school for special guests

Student Councillors (One student per class in Years 4, 5 & 6)

  • Attend and represent Ascot State School at in-school and extra-curricular activities e.g. ANZAC ceremony
  • Co-ordinate and assist with the whole school events on behalf of the student council, e.g. No bullying day
  • Speak at junior and senior assemblies
  • Participate and encourange participation in school activities

House Captains (Two Year 6 students per house)

  • Attend and participate in school carnivals and activities e.g. swimming carnival, athletics carnival
  • Active member of the sports committee
  • Assist with the day to day running of the sports room
  • Assist the P.E. teachers to run the sport carnivals
  • Encourage and promote participation in sports carnivals

Library Seniors (Two Year 6 Students)

  • Represent their class, support the Library initiatives in the school including Book Week, Premiers Reading Challenge and Book Fair
  • Assist with library duties such as borrowing and returns
  • Participate and encourange participation in school activities
  • Speak at junior and senior assemblies

STEAM (Two Year 6 Students)

  • ​Assist with lunch time STEAM club
  • Assist with the co-ordination of STEAM week and competitions
  • Speak at junior and senior assemblies

Music Seniors (One Choir, Band & Strings Senior)

  • Assist Music department with activities held throughout the year including disco's, film evenings and musical evenings.
  • Speak at junior and senior assemblies to promote musical events.

Art Seniors (Two Year 6 Students)

  • Assist the Artist-in-Residence with activities held throughout the year including FoVAD activities such as art week.
  • Speak to assemblies to promote art week and various competitions
