Inclusion team
Ascot
State School strives for the provision of equitable educational opportunities
to ensure that all students have access to, participate in and gain positive
learning outcomes from schooling. Our Inclusion Team plays a vital role in
achieving this goal. Ascot currently has
three specialist teachers who support students.
The
Inclusion team has the responsibility of coordinating the specialist
intervention and services within the school in order to maximise the
effectiveness of the school’s response in meeting the individual needs of
students, including those: who are highly capable
diagnosed with disabilities (hearing impairment, speech language impairment, intellectualdisability, autistic spectrum disorder).
who are learning the English language (EAL/D)
who require behaviour support
with learning difficulties/disabilities
with school attendance challenges
Identification of students with additional needs
Classroom teachers
gather information about students and discuss initial concerns with parents/caregivers. This information is presented at our
case-management meetings that occur twice per term for each class. Courses of action are agreed upon at the meeting.
These may include:
further information gathering by the class teacher and/or parent
The Student Engagement Committee meets fortnightly, to
assess referrals, in order to determine:
appropriate classroom support strategies
additional intervention pathways and;
whether further assessments are necessary
Students with
disabilities at Ascot State School are offered support from the inclusion
teachers and teacher aides. Their teachers are also assisted by the
Inclusion Team to cater for curriculum and individual student needs.
Support can also be
provided through:
- cooperative planning of individual support plans (ISP's)
reporting at an alternate year level for students on an individual curriculum plan (ICP)
social skills programs
support for transition to high school
friendship club to promote peer relationships and positive behaviour
co-operative planning of individual behaviour management and risk management plans and;
access to Department of Education therapy services.
