Why choose our school?

On the 24th of May, 1920, 124 pupils were admitted to Ascot State School in five class levels. This photograph was taken on the 1st October, 1921.

Ascot State School provides a safe and caring environment for high quality learning to occur.  The school’s motto “Strive to Achieve” reflects the strong commitment of teachers and the school community in encouraging every child to reach their full potential.  The school has an outstanding reputation for excellence in academia, sports and the Arts as well as catering for students excelling in individual pursuits.  Our Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Program is highly valued and supported by the parent community.

Ascot is proud of its rich history, traditions and strong school spirit, which have been embraced by generations of local families and new members of the Ascot community.  The school consistently achieves high standards in literacy and numeracy, has excellent attendance and participation rates and enjoys very high standards of student behaviour and pride in the school.

Ascot’s extensive Music Program includes three concert bands – senior, intermediate and junior, string ensemble, brass ensemble and senior and junior choirs.  Students have the opportunity to learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument in a user-pays program from Year 3.  Events occur annually where we feature performances from the school bands, choir and individual students.

The Physical Education program has strong athletics and swimming components and is supported by an active parent-run Swimming Club.  Students participate in learn-to-swim classes from Prep and some students continue to regional and state representation.  Students in years 4 to 6 can choose from a selection of sports to play at district gala days and may participate in district selection trials for cross-country, athletics, netball, softball, cricket, hockey and AFL.

There is a strong community support for Ascot State School.  Working beside the P&C Committee is a Swimming Club, Tuckshop Committee, Uniform Shop, Welcome Group, Physical Environment Group, Friends of Music Group and Friends of Visual Arts and Design.  The P&C employ a School Communications officer whose tasks include coordinating activities with the Class Parent Representatives who supports each classroom teacher.  Parents are represented on the School Council to advise and monitor the strategic direction of the school to ensure it aligns with community values and expectations.
