Our library is home to a large collection of quality children's literature, information texts and teacher resources. Use of the library provides all students with the opportunity to develop literacy skills and a love of reading. All classes have weekly timetabled borrowing times with their classroom teacher. Students can borrow four library books independently as often as they wish. Independent borrowing times are before school from 8.30-8.50am and during every lunch break. Students are encouraged to use a waterproof library bag that is available for purchase from the school Uniform Shop.
eBooks Digital Library – Sora
The eBooks Digital Library is a shared collection of digital resources, managed by the Department of Education for state schools in Queensland. Ascot State School subscribes to this library and it houses a large collection of ebooks, audio books and magazines for students to borrow. It is available to all students from Prep-Year 6.
Access is as simple as downloading the app Sora to your device https://soraapp.com. When prompted to Find my School, choose 'Education Queensland'. Students will need to login using their MIS ID.

Birthday Book Donations
We offer a Birthday Book Donation Program, where families are invited to celebrate their child's birthday and commemorate special events by donating a book to the school library. We personalise each donation with a bookplate on the inside front cover with your child's name and details.
Books are processed and displayed in our library for all children to borrow. We have a growing collection of birthday donation books and children really do enjoy borrowing their special book.
Scholastic Book Club
Families are able to purchase books from our Scholastic Book Club. The Book Club catalogue contains a core range of books specifically chosen for selected year levels. Through supporting Book Club, we earn points that go towards the purchase of additional reading materials for our school Library.
Book Week
In Term 3, we hold our annual Book Week Celebration. Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. At Ascot State School, each class reads the Children's Book Council of Australia's nominated Early Childhood or Picture Book of the Year books. Students are encouraged to participate in our Book Week Dress up day.
