Welcome to Prep at Ascot State School
Prep is an exciting time
for you and your child. Prep is the
first year of schooling and is a fulltime compulsory program, from Monday to
Friday from 9.00am to 3.00pm.
The early years of
learning are among the most significant periods of growth for children.
Experiences during this time not only affect cognitive, social and physical
development, but also deeply influence dispositions to learning and children’s
views of themselves as learners.
At Ascot State School the Prep program is
designed to cater for each child’s interests and needs and to foster a love of
learning.

The Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006 enables principals to
consider early entry to Prep for children who turn five
years by 30 June.
It should be emphasised
that:

standard Prep entry cut-off date remains 30 June in the year a child enters
Prep
A
quality kindergarten program in the year before Prep is the best education
option for all children
Early
entry for July-born children should be by exception only, where it is in

Enrolment information evening for Prep year 2025
Tuesday 7 May 2024 at 6pm - 7pm - School hall
Families enrolling their children at Ascot State School for Prep 2024 are invited to attend our Prep Information Evening on Tuesday 9 May, 2023. This session is for parents only and will consist of information from our Principal, Mrs Michelle D'Netto, our Early Years Deputy Principal, Ms Cindy Keong, and the teaching team who lead learning in Prep.
Enrolment forms are taken at the office, following the information evening. Enrolment packs will be available on the night, or at any time at the school office.
Out-of-catchment enrolments
Ascot State School gives preference to in-catchment enrolments. If there are available spaces within our school facilities, the Principal may decide to open out-of-catchment enrolments.
Out-of-catchment enrolments are submitted via email. This email address will be activated at 10:00am on Friday 3 May 2024.
Out-of-catchment enrolments are processed in the order they are received, but this does not guarantee enrolment at Ascot State School. There are other criteria, including the Enrolment Management Plan, as well as vacancies in classes. Prep Orientation days give our new students a chance to meet their teacher and some of the other students who will be in their class the following year.
