Music education plays an important role in educating the whole child at Ascot State School. The music team consists of two classroom music teachers and specialist instrumental teachers for Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Percussion.
Classroom music
All students receive a 30-minute music lesson with a classroom music teacher. Students perform, compose and analyse music in a singing-based, sequential and cumulative program. Students also have opportunities to play percussion instruments and use music technology to create their own songs.
Co-curricular Music
Students at Ascot State School have the opportunity to extend their music learning through involvement in co-curricular instrumental music. Students perform throughout the year at school concerts, community events, assemblies, and competitions.
Brass/Woodwind/Percussion
Private tuition is available to Year 3 students for Brass, Woodwind and Percussion instruments. These students then continue on to the instrumental program run by Education Queensland. Private tuition is a user-pay service. Students are also able to join this program from Year Four.
Strings
The Education Queensland-run Strings program is available to students from Year Three. They continue on this instrument throughout their primary school education.
Choir
Choir is open to any student in the school. Ascot Piccolos is the choral ensemble for Prep and Year One, Ascot Singers for Year Two and Three, and Ascot Chorale for Year Five and Six students.
