Ascot State School Swim Club website information:

What is Ascot Swim Club?

We are an amateur swim club who welcome swimmers of all levels and abilities, encouraging them to swim against their best time each week. We welcome all levels and abilities, and encourage each individual swimmer to swim against his/her best time each week.

We have timed swimming events for 25m, 50m, 100m, and in 2023 we’ll introduce relay events as well. We pride ourselves on providing a fun and supportive environment for our swimmers and their families.

We were established in 1973, so in 2023 the Club will celebrate 50 years – an amazing achievement!

What happens at Swim Club and who can join?

Swim Club starts at 5pm most Fridays in Term’s 4 and 1 (usually starting in week 2, and finishing in the second last week of the term – please see the calendar below). Swimmers aged between 4 and 12 are welcome, and you don’t need to attend Ascot State School to come along, so if you have friends in the area who would like to join our Club, they are most welcome.

The afternoon starts with a short 30 minute ‘free swim’ from 5pm where any swimmer can enter the pool, supervised by their parents. It’s an opportunity for swimmers to spend time with their friends and to warm up for their races.

Our races start after the free swim, kicking off with some 12 ½ meter events, perfect for our younger club members (usually aged 4 and 5). The young swimmers are guided in the water by our older Club members to ensure they feel safe and confident. It’s a great introduction to the sport of swimming as it’s a lot of fun, and you don’t need to register to participate in these races!

After the 12 ½ meter races are done, the 25m, 50m, and 100m races start. Our meets usually finish at 7:30pm, with younger swimmers finishing before then.

What does the Club provide?

We look after everything for you, but we ask that you know which race your child(ren) are in and have them ready to go. Most swimmers write their race numbers on their arms, and we have pens for this on the night.

Mums, dads, grandparents and friends of swimmers are all invited to join us at the Meets - we serve up a yummy BBQ and well stocked canteen so that no one goes hungry! You can bring cash or cards - we’ve got you covered.

Weekly Personal Best Awards are given to encourage all swimmers and at the annual Club Championship at the end of the season, in March, awards are presented for Most Improved and Overall Champion for each age range, as well as winners and place ribbons at that event.

Who can join?

Here’s the best part: ANYONE can join. Your children do not need to attend Ascot State School to join Swim Club.

Swimmers who want to compete need to be between 4-12 years old. It is a truly great community and we would love for families in the surrounding areas to come along and join the fun.

How do I sign up?

Have we won you over yet? If so and you are a student with Ascot SS, be sure to register and make payment via FlexiSchools. Everyone else must complete the online registration form on the P and C website (https://www.ascotsspandc.org) and payment can be made at the Swim Club Canteen when you attend.

If you’re not an Ascot State School family, please email swimclub-president@ascotsspandc.org and we’ll organise for a registration form to be sent directly to you.

And if you’re still on the fence, please reach out to the Club (email: swimclub-president@ascotsspandc.org) and we can organise a free trial!

Learn to Swim & Ascot Swim Club Squad

Learn-to-Swim Classes are available before and after school at the Ascot school pool, and can be arranged through the Belinda Cadzow swim school.

In 2023 we are excited to announce the introduction of the Ascot Swim Club Squad. Swimmers who qualify for the squad will be notified by the Club and coached by the excellent coaches at the Belinda Cadzow Swim School.

Costs

Registration is $90 per child for the season – great value!

What do I need to bring?

We will provide you with a Swim Club swimming cap when you sign up (for those swimmers who are swimming 25m, 50m, and 100m, so you just need to BYO goggles and swim gear (togs, towel, change of clothes if you need).

What do we need from you?

We can’t run this fab event without you, so we encourage each family to volunteer twice each season. It’s a lot of fun volunteering and you get the opportunity meet other members of our community!
