Friday night swim club
Ascot Swim Club is a friendly, fun, family amateur club where children are introduced to race swimming and in a fun setting. Mums, dads and siblings can enjoy a social Friday evening around the pool – with a BBQ and licensed canteen available.
Swim Club is run every Friday night during school terms 1 and 4 (from mid-October to late March). The meets are at the school swimming pool, which is a heated outdoor pool. Meets start at 5.45pm and usually finish by 7.30pm - younger swimmers are often finished by 7pm. Swimmers of all abilities from 4 -12 years are welcome to participate. Children compete against their own best time at each stroke/distance without any undue pressure. There is an untimed 12.5m race at the start of the evening so that any younger siblings or beginner swimmers can join in the fun. We have older swimmers in the water for this event to act as ‘catchers’.
Swimmer of the Week Awards are given to encourage all swimmers. At the annual Club Championship at the end of the season in March awards are presented for Most Improved and Overall Champion for each age range, as well as winners and place ribbons for the Championship Races.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the running of the Friday night meets and we have a roster to assist with timekeeping, running the BBQ, canteen and marshalling swimmers.
A membership fee is payable for the season by each family. The fee covers all the children in the family.
NB. Learn-to-Swim Classes and Coaching Squads are available before and after school at the school pool, although this is not arranged through Swim Club. Contact details for the Coach can be found on the signage outside the Pool on Massey Street.
